a brief history and statement of capabilities and products

Humble, Texas USA Humble, Texas was founded in the late 1800's by an Englishman named Pleasanton Humble. The pronunciation by the Humble clan being of English origin is pronounced with a silent "H", and thus, the town name is pronounced "Umble". This gives credence to a popular local saying of "Get the "H" of Humble". If want you want to make some quick friends locally, stop by and say Humble rather than Umble; perhaps you'll get off easy only being called a "damned Yankee". Perhaps not. Why the town wasn't called "Pleasanton" remains a mystery, but perhaps the town folks response to being called Humble with an "H" addresses that point.

Spindletop discovery

Bubbles of oil were first observed seeping from ground near the San Jacinto river in 1887. Humble became an oil boom town in the early 1900's when oil was first produced here. The first oil was produced a couple years after the famous Spindletop discovery in Beaumont, Texas. Appropriately enough the first oil was discovered at a location referred to as "Moonshine Hill" just south of the San Jacinto river and just north of down town Humble. Railroad linkage to the rest of world was established in 1904 and shortly thereafter the first tank car of oil was shipped out of Humble's oil field.

Humble Oil and Refining Company was founded by Ross Sterling in 1909. Sterling later became Governor of Texas. Of course, Humble Oil became Exxon in the middle 1960's and the Exxon Production Research building on Buffalo Speedway bears the cornerstone reading "Humble Oil and Refining Company".

The Humble oil fields are still active and have produced over 138,835,590 barrels of oil.

Downtown Humble is located on a salt dome and most of the production is shallow and encircles the city by about a 2.5 mile radius. Humble Instruments & Services, Inc. is located at 218 Higgins Street, Higgins Street being named after the Higgins #1 well at Moonshine Hill. We set right on top of the salt dome, being near the highest point in Humble about 30 ft. above sea level.

Our company, Humble Instruments & Services, Inc. was founded in 1987. Humble Geochemical Services Division was added in 1991.

HISI Analytical Technologies (Division of Humble Instruments & Services, Inc.) first product was a Kinetic Analysis WorkStation offered as an add-on to Rock-Eval II pyrolysis instruments and the Lawrence Livermore Kinetics software. We now build analytical instrumentation such as the SR Analyzer , MACT10, and the TEPI (thermal extraction-pyrolysis inlet). We also build custom instrumentation and develops software, such as Kinetics2000. Humble is also a Agilent Technologies (formerly Hewlett-Packard) Channel Partner meaning that we are an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) using Agilent Technologies instrumentation, hardware, and software.

Humble Geochemical Services offers complete analytical and interpretive services in organic geochemistry. While offering all services (except carbon isotopic analysis), We also develops new methodologies that are not available elsewhere. For example, our compositional kinetics efforts have led to a new era in assessing the rates at which source rocks decompose into oil and gas. In addition the yields of oil and gas can be assessed at various levels of maturity or conversion.
