GCAGS 2011 Annual Convention

Sunday, October 16, 2011  - Wednesday, October 19, 2011

The Mexican Association of Petroleum Geologists has the privilege of organizing the 61st Annual GCAGS Convention, to be held between October 16th and 19th, 2011, in the city of Veracruz.

The technical program comprises 12 technical oral and poster sessions with the participation of national and international specialists, to address relevant current topics related to the sustainable exploration and development of energy, mineral and ground water resources in the Gulf of Mexico. These technical analyses and discussion sessions have been conceived with the idea we have captured in the Convention's lemma: "Sharing Knowledge to Add Value". Participants will have the opportunity to visit the Exhibition area, the ideal framework for strengthening professional relationships and learning about state-of-the-art technologies and services.

To complement this program, we have designed a Symposium on "Jurassic reservoirs in the Gulf region: stratigraphy, sedimentology, diagenesis and modeling", and organized three field trips, short courses, a lunch-conference, and a spouse program. The technical program will include the following 12 topics:

  • Remaining potential in petroleum in circum - Gulf of Mexico petrolum provinces
  • Cenozoic sequence stratigraphic framework of the deep Gulf of Mexico and adjacent areas
  • Climate change, geohydrogy, geological risk, environmental challenges and sustainable development
  • The Gulf of Mexico deepwater setting - geology, economics and technology
  • New perspectives in fractured reservoirs
  • Seismic Imaging and interpretation in geologically complex areas
  • Learning and teaching in geosciences to meet new challenges
  • Interaction between salt tectonics and sedimentation
  • New concepts and methodologies in biostratigraphy
  • Petroleum systems and oil quality controls in the Gulf of Mexico
  • New approaches in sandstone reservoirs characterization and diagenetic modeling
  • New insights into the geodynamic evolution of the Gulf of Mexico.
