Weatherford Laboratories Increases Scanning Capability in Colorado

Monday, October 03, 2011

Weatherford Labs has expanded their portfolio of capabilities in Colorado with the recent addition of the 64-slice CT scanner. They are the exclusive provider of this technology in this area, and can offer operators fast, comprehensive 3-D imaging of core samples for reservoir characterization, specifically in deepwater and unconventional developments.

The scanner was adopted from the medical field and delivers a continuous flow of high-resolution images along the entire length of the core. The technology creates core-derived, high-resolution "borehole" images that are particularly valuable in wells where drilling mud previously prohibited images being obtained downhole. When microresistivity images can be obtained, the results of the helical scanner can be directly correlated with downhole image logs.

Advanced data acquisition, speed and imaging resolution improve rapid reservoir characterization and quality control of various core tests. The scanner eliminates the challenge of imaging with certain mudtypes and provides more precise knowledge of the reservoir. With the data obtained from the scanner, there is a positive impact on overall productivity, efficiency and economy of the assets.
