Humble Instruments & Services, Inc. is pleased to announce the purchase of the ThermEx product line from Leco Corp. of St. Joseph, Michigan. The ThermEx product line functions as an automatic or manual inlet for gas chromatography whereby solid, semi-solid, or liquid samples can be introduced for gas chromatographic fingerprinting. In organic geochemistry this is used primarily for thermal extraction or pyrolysis fingerprinting of rock samples to assess pay zones or source rock type and quality. Our first improvement to the product line enables fast GC analysis of samples where a complex mixture such as an oil stained rock can be fingerprinted in 15 minutes with high resolution results. Addition of our Smart Cryogenic Focusing Device (SCFD) insures ready states and on-column focusing for high resolution results. The TEfastGC approach is currently being used to evaluate stacked sand reservoirs for assessment of pay zone quality in stacked sands in the Gulf of Mexico and elsewhere (Jarvie et al, 2000). We will be modifying the instrument for well site use with pay quality capabilities to assess precompletion API gravity, viscosity, pour point, and apparent water/oil saturation in 2001. The ThermEx product line is an all quartz inlet system, thereby avoiding any alteration of products by interaction with hot metal surfaces. Thus, it is suitable for a variety of applications outside of organic geochemistry. An EPA method has been written for the ThermEx for analyses of polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in soils and sludges (SW-846 and Method 8275A). The Method 8275A can be viewed and/or printed using the Adobe Acrobat Reader.
