The Rock-Eval 5 Is based on the “Rock-Eval” procedure. This instrument allows the following processes to be preformed:

Volatilization of free hydrocarbons (gas + oil) contained in rocks together with their quantitative analysis (S0 + S1)

Thermal cracking of kerogen with determination of the hydrocarbon compounds evolved (S2) and measurement of the temperature at the apex of the peak S2 (Tmax)
