The Lodgepole Formation was evaluated for its source potential over the greater portion of the Williston Basin in North Dakota and Eastern Montana. Approximately 380 samples were analyzed from cores and select well cuttings from 49 wells, most of which were located outside the area considered to be blanketed by the mature underlying Bakken Shale. TOC/Rock - Eval analyses were performed on all samples; 28 gas chromatographic (GC) and 6 GC/MS analyses on source rock extracts were compared to 16 GC and 3 GC/MS analyses of Lodgepole and Mississippian (Mission Canyon-Charles) oils. Vitrinite Reflectance (Ro) and TAI analyses were performed on 11 wells from samples in the lower Lodgepole or Bakken formations; two of the wells have complete Ro profiles. Ro analyses totaled 28.
